Gaylord Hassan, born in Harlem, studied at Pratt Institute, Bob Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and the Famous Artists Painting Course. He is a painter, printmaker, potter and teacher. In 1963, he was one of the founders of the Weusi Artists Collective.
He has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Some of the exhibitions were held at: The Brooklyn Museum, Yale University, Studio Museum in Harlem, The Schomburg Center, African American Museum in Hempstead, Artcurian, Dwyer Culture Center, the Interchurch Center Gallery and the New Muse Community Museum of Brooklyn. Internationally he has exhibited in Ascaria, Georgetown, Guyana, St. Thomas Virgin Islands, West Africa and parts of Europe. To date he has had over 25 solo exhibitions.
